Sequoia National Park Elopement
I headed up to my favorite place, Sequoia National park, for this styled elopement. I grew up coming to Sequoia National Park every summer so I pretty much just had to set ups styled elopement when I went again in January. Specifically, my family would vacation in a cabin at a place called Hume Lake. It’s a Christian camp for middle schoolers and high schoolers. Hume Lake is pretty much everything that you love about camp but in the most beautiful place in the world.
Winter Wonderland
I actually had never been to to Sequoia National Park in the winter. We only would go in the summers growing up. It’s crazy to see how different one place can look from another just by the changing of seasons. The summers are bright, almost cloudless and the lake is warm enough to swim in. But as you can see below, the winters are covered with snow and below 30 degrees. This Southern California boy was definitely not used to the climate change. It only took one day of cleaning off my cars windshield and putting on tire chains to make me never EVER want to live in the snow. It was my first time. So yes it probably took a little bit longer. But it will definitely be my last time. Just kidding. I’ll do it again, but definitely not very often.
Hume Vacation
The trip to Sequoia National Forest was not actually for this elopement. I did a shoot for the camps clothing line, Hume Apparel. And then we made a big family vacation out of it with my side of the family. It was the first time in 4 years that my brothers, their families and my parents all vacationed together. And it was just the best trip ever! My mom was definitely in heaven having her 3 boys all together for a whole week (oh, and her grandkids!).
Livin’ in the Mountians
Dallas and Julie actually live up at Hume Lake year round. They have both been married for almost 5 years (which is the same as Michelle and I) and they have two beautiful kids together. I don’t meet too many blonde couples so it was especially fun to shoot these two beauties. It’s a good thing that I know a good amount of people that live up here, otherwise, I would not of known where to start searching for a couple to model. I did an engagement session in the Sequoias last September and after that, I forced myself to plan another shoot up here. I might actually get the chance to shoot here again in June!
Braving the Cold
I have to give these two a lot of credit, especially Julie. It was under 30 degrees and snowing and she braved the cold in this wedding dress. I was freezing my fingers off and I had a full snow suit on. Pairing snow boots with a whimsical dress in Sequoia National Park for a styled Elopement, is honestly the best aesthetic. How many people get that opportunity?!?! Not many, that’s for sure.
